Old Walled City of Van - A settlement at the base of the rock fortress of Van dates to antiquity. The significance of the Armenian presence in the city of Van is unchallenged. From 1915 through 1918, the city was under constant military dispute and the walled portion of the city of completely leveled. Today, the ruins of two Armenian churches remain although there is an inconsistency in which church is which. Every map shows Sp. Vartan as the eastern most structure, yet Thierry's photographs label that as Sp. Diramayr. The photographs were taken in 2013.
