Sis - The town of Sis, now called Kozan, was the capitol of the Armenian kingdom of Cilicia and seat of the Catholicos of Sis. Its historical importance is immeasurable. The town contained many churches, too numerous to mention here, as well as a fortress castle. I visited Sis in 1996 and in 2015. The once dirt road to the fortress is now a cobble stone street with a cafe and restaurant as well as a children's playground on the site of the Armenian Catholicosate. The picture above is from August 1996 and is of Patriarch Mesrob II Mutafyan at the entrance to the fortress. The photographs in the slide show are from March 2015.
